Happy Independence Day!

Happy July 4th everyone! Meg and are are spending the day by the pool and then we’ll have a little dinnner and do some fireworks in the evening. A rather dull way to spend the day, but it is better than nothing, I suppose.
I actually wanted to head to the New Jersey Cardinal’s game tonight – they have a fireworks show every 4th of July, but we tried to buy the tickets a little too late this year. Because the 4th landed on a Friday this year, I think the tickets sold out a lot more quickly than they did last year. Oh well. We’ll know better for next year.
I’m going to check tonight to see if there are any Revolutionary War documentaries on TV. I’m sort of a RevWar buff and there are usually a few good shows on this time of the year.
Okay, well, other than that – not much else to say. Happy 4th – stay safe everyone!

I’m sure I’m not the only one who is looking back on the past year and mentally comprising a list of things we want to change or things we would like to accomplish in the upcoming year.
For me, I think my goals are going to be spiritually-centered. I used to be such a dedicated Christian, but during the past few years I found myself drifting away from that part of my life. Yes, I may be strong and I may be competent in my daily tasks. I may be a more patient mother and a good student and loving daughter…..but something is definitely missing. I no longer feel the peace I used to feel. Like any relationship that suffers due to neglect, my spiritual relationship has suffered much during these years of self-reliance. I have focused so much on me….and making everything work “just so”….that I have lost touch with what used to be such an important part of my life. It is definitely time to redirect my energy and see where this year leads me. Happy New Year everyone!

Snowdays

32 hours. That is how long we were without electricity. This was one nasty snowstorm. If I had to guess, there is probably somewhere between 12-15 inches of snow out there. Just as the snow was subsiding, power went out around midnight. We spent yesterday at the mall in Scranton, hoping that the power would be back on by the time we came home. It wasn’t.
Soooo…we ended up spending our evening reading by candlelight, warming our food on top of our kerosene heater, playing electronic (battery-operated) Scattergories, and going to bed extra early because we were tired of waiting for electricity to return.
Around 5AM, power came back on for about 20 seconds. Finally, around 8:30 this morning, the power came on…and stayed on. I just spent my day installing my new 80 gig hard drive (thank you, Santa!), installing The Sims: Unleashed, installing my new photo scanner, and installing my new WinTV device to begin the process of turning my analog video tapes into digital video. Computer nerd, indeed! I had an exceptionally nice Christmas this year….and to be honest, I loved the fact that we had lots and lots of snow for Christmas. The loss of electricity was a tad bit irritating, but it sure does look beautiful out there with all of that snow.

It’s Christmas…and a snowy one here in Pennsylvania, too.
Merry Christmas to all and to all…a good night!

Almost Christmas

Well, today is dad’s birthday. As usual, we had to go through all of his Christmas gifts and figure out which ones we will give to him for his birthday. He was tough to buy for this year. The one and only thing he specifically asked for was Frontpage 2002. He is easy to please, though…we could wrap an old pair of his own shoes for him and he’d be happy. :)
I can’t believe that Christmas is almost here. I could swear that it comes much more quickly than it did when I was younger. I love the Christmas season…I shop every Black Friday and every Christmas Eve. I love walking through the shopping mall listening to the Christmas music and being a part of the frenzied shopping experience. I feel like we barely got all of our decorations up and soon we will be taking them down again. Well, I’ll just have to squeeze every bit of the Christmas experience that I can for this season. I do love this time of the year – family, friends, celebrations, gifts, vacation….so much fun! :)
