A Jen Survey

Another Jen with another blog had a neat little survey…and next to lists, I love surveys. So, I borrowed the questions (not the answers) and I now present to you…the Jen Survey (completed in 2002.)

1. Name?
Jennifer Anne. I’ve decided a long time ago that I like being a “Jennifer”. I know there are millions of us in the world, but Jens are unique and interesting and if I am very glad to be part of the Jen population. If you would like to learn a little more about Jens you might want to check out this link to the Jen Rules. It’s all true…indeed it is.

2. Gender?

3. Disneyworld or Disneyland?
Disneyworld. I was born in the Southwest and when I was 4 months old, my parents drove from Texas to Long Island, NY. They took the long route home. They travelled through along the southernmost part of the country and took a mini-vacation in Florida to visit Disneyworld. It’s almost as if having a child granted them permission to finally visit Disneyworld. Even though I obviously don’t remember a single detail of the trip, I did look like I had a good time in the photographs. I haven’t had a chance to visit since then. Oh well. I’m a mom now, so I guess that means I’m allowed to go back there now.

4. What is your favorite color?
Yellow (it’s so bright and sunny!) and blue (for practical fashion reasons – I have blue eyes and any outfit looks better in blue than in yellow)

5. What is your favorite kind of gum?
Orbit, Carefree mint..anything minty.

6. How much do you weigh?
Always trying to lose the same 5 pounds.

7. How tall are you?
5’2″ Short is okay…petite is not too bad either.

8. Can you swim?
If I have to.

9. Do you like to swim?
Not really.

10. Living arrangement?
In a Pennsylvania ranch with mom, dad, younger brother, and daughter, Meghan.

11. What’s on your mouse pad?
I have two of them, which I switch from time to time. The first has a Monet print on it and the second has a little country mouse house that I designed.

12. Favorite board game?
Scrabble. I’m a serious Scrabble player. But, I love Trivial Pursuit and Life, too.

13. Favorite magazine?
Hmm…well, I read Entertainment Weekly and Newsweek every week. That pretty much covers current events in all the necessary areas of life.

14. Favorite Actor?
Harrison Ford. After him, I would have to say Johnny Depp, Ed Harris, Ben Kingsley, and Keifer Sutherland has become a recent favorite, too.

15. Favorite Actress?
Katherine Hepburn for the older movies. Recent movies – Sandra Bullock, Julia Roberts, and Kate Hudson.

16. Do you have an accent?
I don’t think I do. But someone I knew from the western part of PA does like to make fun of the way we say “water” in Eastern PA. They say “wah-ter” and we say “wooter”.

17. Favorite smells?
Strong spicy smells and fresh clean smells. And anything citrus-y. Cinnamon, cucumber melon (a smell that I am pretty sure does not exist on its own in nature), oranges, peaches, pears, ginger spice, gingerbread, and frankinscence.

18. Least favorite smells?
The fake rose smell, (real roses are nice, but the artificial rose scent never smells right), anything sour, wet dog.

19. Favorite sound?
Raindrops, the hum of a large crowd, that funny laugh toddlers make when they are running.

20. Do you prefer pools or oceans?
Oceans. That pretty much takes care of all the senses – smell, sight, taste, touch, and sound.

21. Do you watch Buffy The Vampire Slayer?
Yes, indeed, I do. My brother was after me for years to watch and I finally broke down and found myself addicted to those DVDs.
22. Pencil or pen?
Pen – fine point only. Usually blue instead of black.

23. Who’s better – boys or girls?
As a girl myself, I must put in a vote for our slightly superior intelligence and ability to get things done. But, my dating preference is 100% male.

24. Would you like to own a motorcycle?
Nope – never had an interest in those.

25. Do you sing in the shower?
Yes indeed…although I take more baths than showers. I don’t sing when I’m taking a bath.

26. Who’s the best looking Disney character?
Umm – never really thought about it. I guess Eric is pretty nice looking from The Little Mermaid.

27. What is the first thing you think of when you wake up in the morning?
How many more minutes I have until I have to hit the snooze button again.

28. How many rings before you answer the phone?
Never do – I am one of those call screeners. I wait to see who is leaving the message on the machine first and then I pick up the phone to talk to them…sometimes.

29. How do you want to die?
Do I have to? Oh, okay….in a nice peaceful way. Asleep and smiling, would be nice.

30. Have you ever called a 900 number?
Nope. 800 is as high as I have called on the telephone.

31. Gold or silver?
Gold when I am wearing tans or browns. Silver when I am wearing blacks, greys or blues.

32. Would you ever go bungee-jumping?
Years ago I wanted to, but after I became a mom, it didn’t sound as much fun anymore.

Once I am dressed up, I always like the change, but beforehand I am never looking forward to the fuss of it all.

34. Would you rather be short or tall?

35. Do you enjoy reading?
I’ve always enjoyed reading. I just don’t have the time to do it as much as I would want to. (Instead I spend my time filling out goofy surveys like this one!)

36. What book are you reading now?
I am always reading a bunch of different books at the same time. Right now it’s “How To Raise A Child With a High EQ” by Lawrence E Shapiro and “Sophie’s Heart” by Lori Wick.

37. Favorite books?
“The Green Rider” by Kristen Britain and I’ve read Little Women a million times. I also like Jane Austen’s books.

At the movies: The Two Towers. At home: Unfaithful.

39. Favorite movies?
When Harry Met Sally, Quiz Show, You’ve Got Mail, A Few Good Men, Ocean’s Eleven

40. Do you sleep with a stuffed animal?
Oh goodness – well, yes I do. Two of them. Sheldon, my stuffed green turtle and Arthur…a teddy bear.

41. What is your sign?

42. What are your personality traits?
Oh goodness, let me think…..I’m smart, but a little braindead sometimes; I can be a little sarcastic; I’m rather critical…but in a constructive sort of way (…at least that is what I like to think. I usually have a running commentary about everything and everyone I see), I do take criticism rather well as long as you don’t do it in a condescending way (I really dislike that); I’m talkative; I’m a procrastinator; I become obsessive about the things I really like at the expense of the things I should be doing instead. I can be impatient, though I’m working on that. I’m a lazy perfectionist…I want things to be perfect, but I am too lazy to get everything to be “just so”. And, all in all, I am pretty gosh-darned optimistic and cheery for a single mom/college student still living at home with mom and dad. (I’m can be a little sensitive about that, by the way, so don’t poke too much fun about my current life arrangements) :)

43. What’s your biggest fear?
Hmmm….drowning (which explains why I don’t like swimming that much), anything bad happening to my daughter, not having any idea what I want to do with my life, also having a plane crash into my house, having a tree fall on our house and choking to death on Jolly Ranchers. No lie.

44. Would you ever have cosmetic surgery?
Well, after having a baby at the age of 20 and after 3 months of nursing, what used to be cute and perky have become not so perky anymore. I don’t think I’d actually go for surgery for that, but it does cross my mind occasionally.

45. Future child’s name?
Well, I already have Meghan. I only want one more child and hopefully a boy. I would like a strong name like John…or maybe an Ethan or Derek. If it’s a girl – Kayla, Kelly, Katherine (Katie)…I like K names.

46. Favorite foods?
Pears or apples with peanut butter, freshly-baked bread, peppermint patties, puff pastry with a little bit of cinnamon sugar, and a bacon lettuce and tomato sandwich.

47. Chocolate or vanilla?
Vanilla, definitely. With rainbow sprinkles (and grapes, too).

48. Do you like to drive fast?
I always drive no more than 10 miles over the speed limit. Police officers don’t seem to mind it too much and the impatient person inside of me is appeased with the knowledge that I will get to my desitination a little more quickly.

49. Storms – cool or scary?
Scary – it’s that darned thunder. It always sounds like a tree is about to fall on our house. Our house is surrounded by trees.

50. Do you like to dance?
I would like to dance a lot more if I actually felt I was good at it. Slow dancing is best for me, but I would love to take swing dancing lessons. That looks like a lot of fun.

51. Do you do drugs?
No, not now or never. Thankfully, neither I nor my friends really weren’t into that.

52. Do you smoke?
I did about 9 years ago while I lived away at college, but not anymore.

53. What do you think of people who smoke?
I don’t think any more or less of them. I really feel for the people who want to quit, but can’t. I know how hard it is to stop a habit like that.

54. Do you drink?
Rarely, if I am out with friends.

55. Favorite drink?
Regular drinks: unsweetened tea, coffee, or water with a little bit of lemon and lime. Alcoholic: I like Zima, Rolling Rock, and a simple vodka with cranberry juice on rare occasions. Oh and I do like strawberry daquiris and pina colodas…with or without alcohol, I don’t care. I just like the fruity taste.

56. Do you think men and women could ever be just friends without wanting each other?

57. Do you eat the stems of broccoli?
Yes, but I only eat broccoli raw, not cooked. I can’t stand the smell of cooked broccoli.

58. If you could have any job you wanted, what would it be?
I would love a job that would give me the freedom to make own hours and to be varied enough to keep me on my toes. I also love working with kids. Preschoolers are fun, but I think the middle school age is my favorite.

59. What’s your “type”?
Intelligent, strong-willed, a practicing Christian, funny and kind.

61. Any siblings?
Yes – two brothers. Brian who is 4 years younger than I am and Christopher who is 8 years younger than I am.

62. What movies have you cried in?
Hmm…well, obviously any really sad or touching movies like Phenomenon (I remember bawling in the movie theatre during that one), but I also cry during really happy movies, too. I cry at the end of Officer and a Gentleman and I do get a little misty-eyed at the end of the Little Mermaid when she gives her dad a hug and tells him that she loves him. That’s too sweet.

63. Do you believe in God?

64. Did you ever cry over a guy/girl?
Sure – although looking back now, none of those guys were worth crying over.

65. Favorite part-time job you’ve had?
Well, I worked in a stationery/gift store once. That was actually a lot of fun. I believe it’s the co-workers that make or break a job. If everyone gets along really well and knows how to enjoy themselves, even the most horrid of jobs doesn’t seem too bad.

66. Do you procrastinate?
All the time! I’m quite good at it, too.

67. Do you believe in fate?
I believe that some things may be fated…but not all.

68. Who’s your favorite Sesame Street character?
Grover, Ernie and Snuffalupagus.

69. Do you organize your CD’s?
No, I usually rip them and place my favorite songs in my computer. Once the songs are in there, though, I make sure they are well categorized.

70. What is your favorite kind of music?
I really like all kinds – the only types of music I can’t get into is rap, heavy metal, jazz, or blues.

71. What are your favorite bands/artists?
Well, the songs I have the most of are from Groove Coverage, The Corrs, Faith Hill, Enya, and Atomic Kitten. I may like music, but I never really get into the music scene at all. I know absolutely nothing about particular bands or singers. I just know that I like some of their songs. Oh, at a little bit of trivia for music lovers out there, I used to take piano lessons from Vanessa Carlton’s mom about 10 years ago. I even babysat for Vanessa once, too! She never mentions me, though…

72. What was the last CD you got?
I bought the Triple Image CD for my daughter. She is really into those Disney/Nickelodeon teeny-bopper bands.

73. MTV or VH1?
I used to watch VH1 a lot, but that was at least 15 years ago. I don’t really watch videos anymore.

74. Who do you admire the most?
My mom – she is completely selfless. My aunt, she never shirks her responsibilities and is has a no-nonsense way of living. I like that. Oprah Winfrey – she’s always working so hard to help herself and everyone else to live a better life.

75. Internet Boyfriends and Girlfriends?
I’ve had them without even looking for them…it’s a very unique and utterly frustrating and usually heart-breaking type of relationship. I wouldn’t recommend it.

76. Are you single?
Yes. Somedays I’m very okay with that…and then somedays I’m not.

77. Favorite TV show?
Right now – Alias, 24, Survivor, The Bachelor, Everybody Loves Raymond, Still Standing, and Friends. A small selection of comedy, reality, and drama.

78. Blondes, Brunettes, or Redheads?
I’ve dated a redhead once in college – he was the stereotypical hothead. Blondes are nice, but I think I like dark-haired guys the best.

79. Glasses or contacts?
Glasses, but I don’t wear them too often. I misplace them a lot.

80. What color are your eyes?
A nice bright blue.

81. What is your natural hair color?
A dark blond – especially in the winter. The summer is much nicer to my hair and turns me into a dark blond, with light blond highlights.

82. But what color is it now?
In Januaryâ – a dark blond.

83. Have you ever been in love?
I think so. I thought so. I grew into love and out of love. I never fell.

84. Any pets?
We’ve had our share of them – kittens, gerbils, turtles, fish, and birds. Now we have a dog, Randy, and a guinea pig, Bingo. I can’t have cats anymore…allergies.

85. Good, decent, or poor grades?
My grades were always very good! I’m a little more than obsessive about that. I like challenge of tests and reports, but lately, I am beginning to tire of the whole school thing. I’m ready for a break from college.

86. Is the glass half empty or half full?
Most of the time it’s half full.

87. Do you type with your fingers on the right keys?
Not really, but I am still pretty accurate. I fix mistakes rather quickly – you can barely see an error because I fix it in a flash.

88. What’s under your bed?
Five under-the-bed storage containers of shoes. I have them loosely categorized by color and season.

89. What is your favorite number?
Eighteen and eight. I was born on August 18. My street number used to be 18 and 8′s and 18′s seem to pop up a lot throughout my life. 8 is a soft, comfy number.

90. Favorite sport to watch?
I used to watch hockey a lot. Mike Gartner of the New York Ranger – he just missed the Stanley Cup by a few months. They traded the poor guy right before their big win. *sigh* I still haven’t gotten over that.

91. Shoe size?
Size 5 or 5 and a half, depending on the shoe. I still have a pair of shoes that fit me from the 7th grade.

92. Favorite quote from a movie?
Oh goodness, there are too many! Well, here’s one from the Wizard of Oz: “Hearts will never be practical until they are made unbreakable.”

93. Favorite day of the week?
Thursday (I love Fridays, but I think I like Thursdays more because of the anticipation of the upcoming Friday)

94. Favorite Flower?
Sunflowers – they are bright, wild, and sunny. Tulips – elegant.

95. Most annoying thing?
Car trouble, getting lots of junk mail about mortgage rates, viagra and free Motorola pagers, missing the alarm clock because (a) the volume was too low or (b) I set the time to AM when it was PM (and vice versa).

96. Favorite Salad dressing?
Oil and Vinegar

97. What word or phrases do you overuse?
Hmmm…I don’t know! I say “goodness” a lot and I use “thingies” a lot, too. (Usually because I talk so fast that I don’t have time to think of the real name for what I am talking about – so everything is “that thingy”)

98. Number of candles that appeared on your last birthday cake?
28 (ack! Don’t remind me! I liked being 22..wasn’t that such a nice age? Old, but not too old…young, but not too young)

99. Bed time?
Anytime after midnight.

100. Best things in life?
My daughter, having everyone home safe and sound, reading a really good book, vanilla ice cream with sprinkles, babies, the smell of the air after it rains, having a really good laugh after watching my brother run across the deck and literally bounce off the closed screen door which he mistakenly thought was open, coffee and chats with friends, gooseberries, a good night’s sleep.
