Back again

Well, weeks later, I am finally back with a fully reformatted computer. (It didn’t take me that long to reformat, it just took me that long to finally post to my blog with the info)
Does anyone else have the same addiction I have to reformatting their computer? There is nothing better than starting over with a fresh new empty hard drive waiting to be filled with all of your favorite programs again.
I have a printed checklist of all of the programs and hardware drivers, etc., I need to install after every reformat. I also list the extras I need to back up before I actually clear out the hard drive. (OE files, My Favorites folder, my Downloads, any saved games I have, etc.) This list is nearly 3 pages long, but it ensures that I do not leave anything behind. There is always that feeling of panic
I love my computer.
I’m such a nerd.
*happy smile*
By the way, if anyone reads this and can help me figure something out I would really appreciate it.
I have done a lot of searches on this and I just can’t seem to figure out the problem. I seem to have lost the tray icon that indicates my dial-up status. You know…those two little computers in the system tray that light up when information is being sent or received. It used to be there, but now it isn’t. I know that there is an option in my network connection properties that allows you to click “Show icon in notification area when connected”. I have definitely clicked that. It is always checked, but the icon never shows up anymore.
To add to the confusion, my father had the same problem with his computer, but when he recently did a system restore (we both have XP), the icon returned. We tried to figure out what our computers might have had in common that could have caused the same thing to happen, but we have no clue. We aren’t networked and we really haven’t installed any similar programs (that we can remember). In any case, if someone can shed some light on this, I would appreciate the info.
Well, that’s all for now. Let’s see how long it takes before I actually add another entry to this random rambling blog of mine.
Meghan was home all last week with a variety of ailments – first a fever, then a sore throat, then a cough, then ‘pink eye’. She seems better now and should be back in school tomorrow. That means my week should be returning to its normal routine once again….I hope.
